President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure will end on July 31, 2026.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is widely recognised as a leading academic and systems expert with extensive experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform.
He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained firsthand experience in admissions management and data-driven institutional processes.
With more than 15 years of professional experience, he has advised federal and state governments on digital transformation, operational reform, and public-sector system design. At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
Professor Aina has also served as consultant to major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expects the new registrar to leverage his expertise and experience to consolidate and expand on the reforms and achievements recorded under the outgoing administration at JAMB.
