The Controller, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Gambo Aliyu has commended the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) for recognising his contributions to Nigeria’s maritime and trade sectors.
Comptroller Gambo expressed his appreciation while receiving the award at the 2026 Maritime Training Summit and Awards organised by AMJON in Lagos.
He described the recognition as a great honour and responsibility, saying the award was not solely for him but also reflected the dedication and sacrifices of officers and men of the FOU Zone ‘A’.
According to him, the unit’s commitment to intelligence-led enforcement, border security and trade facilitation has been strengthened by the professionalism and cooperation of partner security and regulatory agencies.
He said the FOU Zone ‘A’ remained committed to its mandate of protecting Nigeria’s economic borders, curbing smuggling and creating a secure environment where legitimate trade could thrive.
The FOU boss noted that the award reaffirmed the importance of transparency, collaboration and result-oriented operations in achieving the objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He also commended AMJON for its role in promoting informed discussions on maritime affairs and holding stakeholders accountable through responsible journalism.
He said the media plays an important role in highlighting institutional achievements while also challenging government agencies to improve their performance.
Comptroller Gambo pledged that the FOU Zone ‘A’ would continue to strengthen its relationship with the media, deepen collaboration with relevant agencies and enhance operational excellence.
He added that the award would serve as renewed motivation for the unit to uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Customs Service and continue serving the nation with distinction.
