Maritime Police Engages IMAN on Port Operations, Reaffirms Commitment to Professional, Accountable Policing

The Maritime Police Command has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to accountability, professionalism, due process and effective stakeholder engagement in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, gave the assurance when she received a delegation of the Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), South-West Zone, led by its Chairman, Mr. Joseph Ajoku, during a meeting at the Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Adebayo Rasheed Adesayo, the meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss issues surrounding port operations, security and the need for stronger collaboration between the Maritime Police and stakeholders in the maritime sector.
The AIG assured the delegation that accountability, professionalism and respect for due process remain fundamental principles guiding the Command’s operations.
She noted that the Command was willing to continuously review its operational processes, strengthen internal accountability mechanisms and address legitimate concerns raised by stakeholders through appropriate channels.
AIG Okunade also solicited the continued cooperation of IMAN and other maritime stakeholders, particularly through the timely sharing of credible information and constructive feedback.
She stressed that stronger stakeholder collaboration would enhance intelligence-led policing, prevent criminal activities and contribute to a safer, more secure and efficient port environment.
Responding, the Chairman of IMAN, South-West Zone, Mr. Joseph Ajoku, commended the AIG for providing an avenue for direct engagement and dialogue.
Ajoku expressed the Association’s readiness to collaborate with the Maritime Police Command in promoting a secure, transparent and efficient port environment capable of supporting legitimate trade and economic activities.
The Maritime Police Command, under the leadership of AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, said it remains committed to strengthening its relationship with stakeholders across the maritime sector and delivering professional, accountable, intelligence-led and people-oriented policing in support of national security and economic prosperity.
The Command further encouraged members of the public and maritime stakeholders to channel genuine complaints, enquiries and relevant information through its official communication channels.
