The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has engaged the Saudi Arabian delegation on early preparations for the 2027 Hajj season, with discussions focused on improving air transportation and ensuring the seamless movement of Nigerian pilgrims.
The engagement took place on Monday at the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow in Cairo, Egypt, where Keyamo also held high-level discussions with major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and other global aviation stakeholders.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
According to the Minister, the early engagement with the Saudi team is aimed at ensuring that the aviation component of the 2027 Hajj operations is properly planned and coordinated ahead of the pilgrimage.
The engagement is expected to contribute to improved planning and coordination ahead of the 2027 Hajj season, particularly in areas relating to air transportation and the seamless movement of Nigerian pilgrims.
Keyamo stressed the importance of commencing preparations early to ensure that the aviation arrangements for next year’s Hajj are efficiently coordinated and provide a smoother experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
At the airshow, the Minister also engaged major global aviation OEMs on opportunities for collaboration, particularly in upgrading aviation infrastructure across Nigeria.
He said the discussions with the OEMs would support efforts to improve the efficiency, safety, competitiveness and sustainable growth of the Nigerian aviation industry.
“The occasion afforded us the opportunity to meet major OEMs from around the world and engage in discussions regarding upgrading our aviation infrastructure across the country,” Keyamo said.
The El Alamein International Airshow was presided over by the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who was accompanied by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The event provided Nigeria with an opportunity to strengthen strategic relationships with major players in the global aviation industry and explore areas that could support the modernisation of the country’s aviation sector.
