The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening trade and maritime cooperation with Abu Dhabi following recent engagements at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
This was disclosed when the Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, received the Consul-General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Nigeria, His Excellency Salem Al-Jaberi, at the Authority’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
Nigeria’s participation at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, on strategic collaboration in ports development, maritime logistics and digital solutions.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Dantsoho said the engagement was in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the vision of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy to expand Nigeria’s trade footprint, particularly in the non-oil sector.
He noted that the NPA was committed to consolidating synergies with Abu Dhabi to grow trade volumes and enhance port efficiency through technology-driven solutions.
In his response, the UAE Consul-General, Salem Al-Jaberi, described Nigeria and Abu Dhabi as strategic partners and expressed readiness to strengthen bilateral relations and expand trade cooperation.
He said the UAE was prepared to work closely with Nigeria to double trade relations and unlock new opportunities in the maritime and logistics sectors.
The meeting was attended by the Executive Directors of the NPA: Mrs. Vivian Richard-Edet (Finance and Administration), Engr. Ibrahim Abba Umar (Engineering and Technical Services) and Engr. Olalekan Badmus (Marine and Operations).
Both sides concluded the meeting with a renewed commitment to explore broader trade and investment opportunities capable of boosting economic growth and strengthening ties between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.
