The Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Apapa Federal Constituency, under the Lagos Central Senatorial district, Eunice Atuejide has called for the cancellation of the National Assembly election in some parts of the state.
Atuejide made the call following the omission of the Labour Party logo from several ballot papers in the ongoing National Assembly elections in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A voter told our correspondent that he could not find the logo of the party while casting his vote in the Apapa area of Lagos on Saturday morning.
In an exclusive telephone chat with JournalNG, Atuejide disclosed that over 10 of its National Assembly candidates, including those vying for seats at the red chamber were left out, arguing that the action was deliberate.
She said that the party will be heading to court to address the issue.
Her words: “It came as a shock to us that the Labour Party Logo was not on the ballot paper for some of the candidates in Lagos State, and we already submitted a court order from the Court of Appeal, asking INEC to list everyone of us in Lagos for the National Assembly elections.
“So, it came as a surprise to us when picking up and verifying materials that a number of us were left out. All our senate candidates and nine or more of us for the National Assembly were left out.
“We’ve been in the situation room and checking what’s going on, but we decided to just finish the work today for Peter Obi’s candidacy. We are pretty sure we are winning the elections, so we are focusing our energy on completing the mission to make our principal the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“First thing tomorrow morning, we will make an application to have the National Assembly elections in all the affected constituencies cancelled, so that a proper election can be conducted; including those of us they have deliberately and maliciously left out of the polls”.
The 44 years old accused officials of the electoral commission and the National Youth Service Corps participating in the elections of electoral malpractice.
According to her, they were influencing the electorates to vote for the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where they cannot find the Labour Party logo.
“We are going round the polling units as observers and Labour Party interest protectors. We have seen lots of polling units where these logos are not present, and even some of the INEC officials and NYSC are asking people to vote APC when they come to vote for Labour and can’t find the logo.
“They tell them if you can’t see Labour logo, put it for APC. And we are like, you are wasting your time; you are not taking our mandate. We are coming for it. We will go to court; we will get an order. This National Assembly elections for Lagos will be cancelled and those of us who deserve to go to the National Assembly will get the opportunity to do so from a proper election”, she said.
The lawyer further boasted that Labour Party will win Lagos at the end of the day.
“We know we are taking Lagos, no doubt about it. You need to be on the streets right now and see for yourself that Lagos has gone. So, nobody can use any trick to try and disenfranchise some of us”, she added.
Atuejide founded the National Interest Party (NIP) in 2018 and was the party’s presidential candidate in 2019.
