The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reassured travellers and stakeholders that stringent preventive measures have been activated across the country’s international airports following recent concerns over the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in parts of Central Africa.
In a statement issued on 20th May, 2026 by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, the Authority said it has intensified surveillance and passenger monitoring in collaboration with the Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and other relevant agencies.
According to Agbebire , passengers arriving from high-risk regions are being closely monitored, while health screening procedures have been strengthened at airports nationwide to prevent any possible importation of the disease into Nigeria.
He disclosed that passengers are currently being screened for symptoms associated with Ebola, adding that any suspected case would be immediately isolated and subjected to secondary health checks in line with national and international health protocols.
The FAAN spokesperson further stated that the Authority had reinforced emergency response procedures, improved staff sensitisation, and strengthened coordination with key stakeholders to ensure prompt action when necessary.
While noting that there is no confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria at the moment, he stressed that it remains vigilant and fully committed to safeguarding public health as well as ensuring safe airport operations across the country.
The agency also advised passengers to remain calm, comply with all health screening procedures, and promptly report any symptoms to health officials at the airports.
