The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is set to honour the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his groundbreaking reforms and transformative leadership since assuming office.
The award presentation will headline the 2025 AMJON Conference, scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Rockview Hotel, GRA, Apapa, Lagos.
According to AMJON, Dr. Adeniyi was selected as the Most Impactful Chief Executive Officer in Nigeria’s maritime industry for leading the NCS to unprecedented prominence both nationally and internationally — a feat that culminated in his emergence as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.
Among his many achievements, AMJON highlighted his leadership in driving the Service’s modernisation agenda through the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu. The platform has enhanced revenue collection across Customs formations nationwide while addressing long-standing operational challenges.
AMJON’s Acting President, Vera Osokpo, commended Dr. Adeniyi for his robust stakeholder engagement and commitment to fostering industrial harmony within the maritime sector. She noted that his inclusive leadership has promoted seamless trade facilitation and boosted investor confidence in Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.
Also to be honoured at the event is the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, for his exceptional performance in public communication and crisis management.
According to Osokpo, AC Maiwada has distinguished himself as a dynamic communicator who leverages modern tools and digital media to project the image and activities of the Service effectively. She described him as a trailblazer in the use of social media and artificial intelligence (AI) to disseminate Customs-related information nationwide.
She further commended his coordination of a vibrant media team that produces audio-visual content through the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN) and other verified social media platforms — making the NCS one of the most media-active public institutions in Nigeria.
AMJON added that several other Customs Commands, organisations, and individuals will also receive recognition during the epoch-making ceremony.
