The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi has commissioned a well equipped sports arena at the Murtala Muhammed Area Command .
The sports arena was commissioned by the CGC on Tuesday 26th November, 2024 and other Customs Area Comptrollers, stakeholders, and personnels of the command were in attendance.
Comptroller MT Awe, the Command’s Area Controller in his welcome address, while expressing his gratitude to the CGC and stakeholders for their support in making the project a reality made it known that the journey of the project began when the management of the command proposed to build an officers mess within the command premises and an approval from the customs headquarters to that effect was secured.
After series of consultation, they arrived at a conclusion that construction of such facility within the environment will be under utilized and consequently the command quickly requested to repropose the initial approval for the officers mess to be turned into a sports arena which was graciously granted and construction commenced immediately in the Command .
Compt Awe said that the sports arena is expected to serve as a vital tool for recreation, fitness, and comradeship among customs personnel and will also foster teamwork, collaboration, and individual effectiveness as facility demonstrates the positive impact of partnership between the private and public sectors on the command and community at large .
He urged the officers and men of the command to fully utilize the arena to sharpen their physical fitness and build stronger ties with their colleagues.
While emphasising that the unveiling of the sports arena is a testament to the command’s commitment to the wellbeing of its personnel and the community, he said it is expected to be a symbol of collaboration and growth between stakeholders.
” The sport arena is more than just a physical structure, it represents a beacon of unity, wellness and progress for the officers and men of this command whose responsibilities demands physical endurance, mental alertness and team work.
” This arena will serve as a vital tool for recreation, fitness, comradeship it could also serve a tool to enhance both individual and organization effectiveness the construction of this sport facility also demonstrates the physical way in which partnership between the private and public sector can positively impact out communit.
” To the stakeholders, your contribution goes beyond funding, it is a lasting legacy of investment in the wellbeing of our personnel. Let today’s event be a reminder to us all that greatness is not achieved in isolation whether in ports or service to aviation. Success is built on team work and collaboration
The CGC, Adewale Adeniyi in his speech , expressed his delight in having the sports arena named after him as it gives him great joy to be in the command for its commissioning
He also commended the Area Controller and the members of his team who brought up the initiative likewise all stakeholders whose collaboration, cooperation and generosity were leveraged in making the project a reality. Adeniyi stated that Compt Awe has done a great job by not leaving the Command the same way he met it and he hasn’t failed in his expectation on performance as he was posted to the Command for the post of the Controller based on high recommendation
Adeniyi concluded by encouraging personnels and stakeholders to seize the opportunity of having a well equipped sports arena in the Command to have competitions so as to encourage everyone into living a healthy life .

The quarter guard post that was upgraded has been in that position ever since Compt Awe joined the service in 1990 and he has come up with the initiative to commit resources into upgrading it and it’s highly commendable .
” This is an opportunity for everyone to rededicate their lives and maintain a balance between the demands of the job , rigour of Lagos, and their health”.
