As part of activities to commemorate the International Women’s Day (IWD) Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Ogun 1 Command chapter, has celebrated their members and other women in the community by distributing food items like rice noodles and beverages to the widows, orphans, vulnerable and the less privileged on 13 March 2024.
In a press release issued in Idiroko by the association’s publicity secretary, Mrs Ofonime Archibong, the group acting chairperson, Mrs Grace Adeola Ogunesan informed the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu about the assembled food items meant to be given out to cushion the hardship faced by the beneficiaries.
The association commenced their celebration at the Command’s headquarters Idiroko, by meeting the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu and his management team. The acting chairperson, Mrs Grace Adeola Ogunesan informed the CAC about the assembled food items meant to be given out as palliative to widows, orphans and the less privileged, to commemorate IWD celebrations. She appreciated the fatherly support of the CAC in securing the items.
The Area Controller,according to the release, appreciated the visit of the association and commended their charity initiative. Comptroller Shuaibu also described the timing as apt as it will cushion the effects of the present economic challenges facing the country. He urged them to ensure continuity of their kind gesture.
The Controller who inspected the food items before distribution, joined the association in group photographs before the commencement of the distribution.
Beneficiaries of the palliative expressed gratitude to the association for deeming it fit to reach out to them. Among the beneficiaries were the wives of late officers who died in active service.
