The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has recorded 4,765 delayed flights and 36 cancellations among 7,961 domestic flights operated across the country in August 2026.
The figures were contained in the NCAA’s Summary of Domestic Airline Flight Disruption Operations for August 2026, which provides a breakdown of flight operations and disruptions recorded by individual domestic airlines during the month.
Of the 7,961 flights operated, 4,765 were delayed, representing about 59.9 per cent of total domestic flights recorded during the period, while the 36 cancellations accounted for approximately 0.5 per cent.
The report further showed that 2,801 flights were delayed between 16 minutes and one hour, representing the largest category of delays.
Another 1,322 flights were delayed between one and two hours, while 407 flights experienced delays of between two and three hours. A total of 235 flights were delayed for three hours or more.
Among the airlines, Air Peace recorded the highest number of delayed flights, with 1,330 delays out of 1,864 flights operated during the month.
It was followed by United Nigeria Airlines, which recorded 943 delayed flights out of 1,231 operations, while Enugu Air recorded 582 delays from 878 flights operated.
Other airlines also recorded significant delays. ValueJet had 435 delayed flights out of 767 operations, Ibom Air recorded 254 delays from 560 flights, Aero recorded 246 delays from 469 flights, while Rano Air had 216 delays from 503 flights.
Max Air recorded 204 delayed flights from 336 operations, Arik recorded 188 delays from 301 flights, Overland recorded 139 delays from 239 flights and Green Africa recorded 114 delays from 226 flights.
The report showed that Umza Air recorded 52 delayed flights from 403 operations, while XE Jet recorded 40 delays from 127 flights. Binani recorded 22 delays from 57 flights.
On cancellations, United Nigeria Airlines recorded the highest number with eight, followed by Air Peace with seven. Arik recorded one cancellation, Enugu Air four, Green Africa three, Ibom Air three, Max Air four, Rano Air three and ValueJet three.
Aero, Binani, Overland, Umza Air and XE Jet recorded no cancellations during the period, according to the NCAA report.
The figures provide an overview of the level of domestic flight disruptions experienced by Nigerian air travellers during August and form part of the NCAA’s monitoring of airline operational performance and compliance with consumer protection requirements.
The Authority has continued to emphasise the need for airlines to improve operational reliability while ensuring that passengers affected by delays and cancellations are properly informed and treated in line with applicable aviation regulations.
