The Customs Area Controller of the Ogun I Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, (NCS) , Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, has highlighted the success of a joint “Show of Force” security operation conducted with Nigerian and Beninese security agencies, describing it as a demonstration of the two countries’ collective resolve to combat cross-border crime.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Zakaro Chado who disclosed this in a press release, Afeni made this known on 8th July, 2026 while receiving the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, during an official working visit to the Ogun I Area Command in Idiroko.

According to ComptrollerAfeni, the joint operation underscores the unified strength and operational readiness of both countries to tackle transnational criminal activities while promoting a secure environment for legitimate cross-border trade.
The Customs Area Controller also disclosed that the Joint Border Security Committee has significantly reduced the number of security checkpoints along the Idiroko border corridor.

He explained that the initiative has eliminated unnecessary bottlenecks, eased the movement of people and goods, improved operational efficiency and facilitated legitimate trade without compromising security.
Afeni noted that the Nigeria Customs Service recently achieved a 100 per cent compliance rating on Ease of Doing Business metrics, attributing the feat to ongoing modernisation efforts and trade-friendly reforms.

While appreciating the Commissioner of Police for the visit, he reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with all security agencies in the areas of border security, trade facilitation and national economic development.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police commended the Customs Area Controller for enhancing security and facilitating seamless trade at the nation’s borders.

Ojajuni said that since assuming office, he has not received any crime complaints from the Idiroko axis, despite the border community being one of the busiest in Ogun State.
He attributed the prevailing peace to the strong collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies under Afeni’s leadership.
The police commissioner also praised the professionalism displayed by Customs officers and the effective inter-agency cooperation at the Idiroko-Igolo border corridor, noting that the partnership has strengthened regional security while reducing unnecessary security checkpoints.
