NiMet DG ,Anosike Applauds Cosmopolitan University for Adopting AI to Build Climate-Resilient Communities
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has commended Cosmopolitan University for embracing artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to support the development of climate-ready and climate-resilient communities.
Anosike gave the commendation on Monday while receiving the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Carl Adams, and members of the institution’s management team during a courtesy visit to NiMet.
The NiMet Director General described the university’s commitment to deploying AI for climate solutions as a significant step towards addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change. He noted that innovation and technology will play a critical role in strengthening resilience and improving sustainable development.
He also highlighted the shared vision between NiMet and Cosmopolitan University in translating scientific research into practical solutions that benefit society. According to him, the agency has made significant progress in producing research documents and scientific information aimed at supporting informed decision-making across various sectors.
Speaking during the visit, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carl Adams, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to developing the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and advancing climate-smart innovations through satellite data and artificial intelligence applications.
To deepen their collaboration, both institutions agreed to formalise their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The proposed agreement will focus on climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation research, staff exchange programmes, data analytics, AI applications, and the use of meteorological information to improve livelihoods.
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the university’s Pro-Chancellor and other members of its senior management team.
