According to AMATO, the incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the company’s premises located around Km 12, opposite the old Ratcoc Quarry, following a disagreement over a request for demurrage compensation.

The association said information, photographs and video evidence made available to it indicated that the two transport workers were allegedly subjected to physical assault and intimidation involving Indian nationals, company staff and security personnel.

AMATO described the incident as a serious matter requiring an urgent and impartial police investigation, stressing that no commercial disagreement should result in violence, humiliation or the violation of fundamental human rights.

AMATO also stressed that foreign nationals and corporate organisations operating in Nigeria are subject to the country’s laws and must respect the fundamental rights of Nigerian citizens.

While condemning what it described as racial discrimination, xenophobic hostility, intimidation and unlawful violence against Nigerian maritime truck operators, the association clarified that its position was directed at the reported conduct of the individuals involved and not at Indian nationals as a group.

The association called on the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Alagbon, and other relevant investigative authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, identify all persons involved, preserve available evidence and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
