Ezisi made the call in his opening remarks at the National Conference on Sustainable Fishing, themed “Sustainable Fishing in Nigeria: Pathways to Growth, Food Security, and Coastal Livelihoods,” organised by MARCON and held at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Ezisi, who was represented at the event by the Secretary General of NAGAFF, Godfrey Nwosu, stated that efficient logistics and transparent supply chains were vital to ensuring that sustainably harvested fish reached markets safely, affordably, and in compliance with international standards.

He argued that freight forwarders should not be viewed merely as facilitators of trade, but as partners in safeguarding food security and supporting coastal livelihoods.

“Their impact on the fishing industry deserves our attention and deliberate integration into policy and practice,” he stated.

Ezisi described fishing as more than an industry, noting that it provides food, jobs, and sustenance for coastal communities.

The MARCON Patron stressed the need for sustainability, warning that depletion of the nation’s waters would affect future generations.

Ezisi emphasised that the conference provided an opportunity for stakeholders to forge solutions that would balance economic growth with responsibility, protect livelihoods, and secure food for millions of Nigerians.

He commended MARCON for convening the conference and called for sustained attention to the role of logistics and freight forwarding within the fishing value chain.
