The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council on October 20 as part of preparations for the 2027 general election, declaring its readiness to contest all elective positions in the country.
The party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuweghe, stated today at a press briefing in Abuja, declaring the party’s readiness to contest all elective positions in the country.
Senator Zuweghe said the NDC was fully committed to the 2027 elections, urging Nigerians to discountenance negative propaganda by the opposition and false claims that the party was not prepared to participate in the electoral contest.
“The party has fielded candidates for the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, governorship, and state House of Assembly elections.” Senator Zuwoghe said.
The NDC National Chairman said the party is into the 2027 general election to ensure that Nigeria and indeed Nigerians are salvaged from what he described as recklessness and hardship facing the people, insisting that the party is determined to fairly contest and has already fielded candidates for all positions, including the presidential, senate, house of representatives, governorship, and state house of assembly.
“Our commitment to the elections is sacrosanct. Our resolve is absolute,” he said.
He said the party was determined to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of plunging Nigerians into a difficult situation, adding that the forthcoming elections offered an opportunity to change the country’s direction.
The 2027 General Election is an opportunity for freedom for Nigeria and Nigerians,” Zuweghe said.
The NDC chairman called on electoral authorities and security agencies to ensure that the votes of Nigerians were protected and counted, warning against any attempt to frustrate the electoral process.
He stressed that the party would continue to hold the judiciary and INEC in high esteem, adding that the party has resolved that its victory must be announced by presiding officers, not judges or those who cannot do simple arithmetic of addition and subtraction.
Zuwoghe advised security and intelligence agencies to remain neutral throughout the electoral process and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise national interest over personal political ambition.
Zuweghe cited former President Goodluck Jonathan as an example of a leader who, according to him, placed the country’s stability above personal ambition.
The NDC chairman also acknowledged the support of Nigerians, particularly young people, who have formed groups to mobilise support for the party and its candidates ahead of the elections.

He said the party would coordinate the groups towards achieving its political objectives but cautioned supporters against infiltration by groups allegedly created to undermine its activities.
“We will continue to provide the coordination needed to ensure that we succeed in our joint objective of making Nigeria work again,” he said.
Zuweghe, who said the party leadership is ready to work with support groups for the smooth conduct of next year’s general election, however, alleged that opponents could establish fake support groups within the NDC’s support base, urging such individuals to abandon any plan capable of undermining the country’s constitutional democracy.
Senator Zuwoghe also re-echoed the party leadership’s commitment to the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that the contest would provide an opportunity for Nigerians to determine the country’s political future by voting for credible candidates of their choice.
