Maritime Regulators, Industry Operators, Journalists Set for 10th Anniversary Seminar in Lagos

Key regulatory agencies, trade operators and maritime journalists will converge in Lagos on December 17, 2025, for the 10th Anniversary Annual Seminar for Maritime Journalists—an industry-defining forum designed to shape discussions around digital trade facilitation, regulatory efficiency and the economic reforms transforming Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Now in its tenth year, the seminar has evolved into a major business-intelligence hub, equipping maritime journalists with the technical expertise needed to analyse policy decisions, interpret market trends and evaluate operational performance across the nation’s blue economy.
Over the last decade, it has significantly strengthened the information value chain that supports investment decisions in ports, shipping, logistics and inland trade corridors.
This year’s edition holds at a pivotal time for Nigeria’s maritime economy, as the sector undergoes deep reforms driven by digitalisation, regulatory restructuring and growing demand for operational transparency.
A key highlight of the programme is a Business Dialogue on the National Single Window, to be led by the Director of the National Single Window, Mr. Tola Fakolade.
The session will unpack the commercial value of the platform, outline its impact on trade competitiveness and examine the media’s role in communicating its benefits to the business community.
Participants will also benefit from a hands-on session on “Data Analysis for Effective Maritime Reporting”, to be delivered by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Abdullahi Maiwada.
The training aims to enhance journalists’ ability to interpret trade statistics, cargo volumes, revenue patterns and operational indicators that shape reportage within the port and logistics ecosystem.
The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Ukeyima, will deliver the keynote address focusing on regulatory efficiency, investment protection and the media’s role in sustaining a transparent business environment.
Chairman of the Occasion, Mr. Warredi Eniosuoh, brings extensive private-sector and regulatory experience that aligns with the industry’s drive for safer waterways, streamlined port operations and cost-efficient cargo movement.
The presence of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, as Special Guest of Honour further underscores the relevance of the seminar to ongoing customs reforms, trade automation and the government’s broader goal of reducing the cost and time of doing business at Nigeria’s ports.
According to Mr. Sesan Onileimo, CEO of First Mediacon Network Limited and convener of the seminar, the past decade has demonstrated that accurate, data-driven journalism is indispensable to the growth of the maritime industry. “This platform equips journalists with the tools to interrogate reforms, analyse investments and provide the business community with reliable information,” he said.
As the seminar marks a decade of consistent impact, the organisers reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the professional capacity of maritime journalists and promoting a more transparent, efficient and investment-friendly maritime environment.
