President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under Mr. Ola Olukoyede for remarkable strides in asset recovery and record-breaking conviction rates.

The President gave the commendation on Monday, October 20, 2025, while declaring open the 7th EFCC, NJI Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja. The workshop was themed “Enhancing Justice in the Fight Against Economic and Financial Crimes.”

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu noted that his administration has made accountability a central pillar of governance by empowering anti-corruption agencies with the independence and resources needed to perform effectively.

“The EFCC, for instance, has secured over 7,000 convictions within the first two years of this administration and recovered assets exceeding ₦500 billion. The recovered funds have been reinvested into the economy to support key social initiatives such as the Students Loan and Consumer Credit schemes,” he said.

The President emphasised that both the judiciary and anti-graft agencies must work in synergy to uphold the rule of law and public confidence in the justice system.

In his remarks, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede highlighted the indispensable role of the judiciary in sustaining the fight against economic and financial crimes. He acknowledged that his years of experience in fraud management and regulatory compliance had shown him the judiciary’s critical position in upholding accountability.

However, he lamented the delays caused by prolonged court processes, particularly in high-profile cases, which often slow down the pace of justice and hinder the Commission’s effectiveness.
