The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC) are joining forces to stop terrorist financing and other forms of financial crimes that threaten national security.
The agreement was made on October 7, 2025, when the Chief of Military Intelligence, Major General Aliyu Abbas Idris , led officers of NAIC on a courtesy visit to the EFCC Chairman ,Mr. Ola Olukoyede, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
In his remarks ,Major General Idris said the visit was to strengthen the existing ties between the EFCC and NAIC.He explained that working together is important because both groups are fighting the same battle to keep the country safe.
“We are here to seek your support and work on more areas of collaboration,” he said.
He also talked about how Nigeria has come a long way in the fight against Boko Haram. He reminded everyone that years ago, there were bomb attacks in many cities like Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Lokoja. But now, he said, the terrorists have been pushed back to a small part of Borno State.
However, the general warned that terrorists are still able to survive because they keep finding money to fund their attacks.
“You wonder how a non-state actor has been waging war with a strong nation like Nigeria for 16 years. That tells you there is funding somewhere,” he said.
He added that new intelligence shows terrorists are now using trade and business activities to get funds. Because of that, he said the Army needs the EFCC’s help since the EFCC has more experience in tracking illegal money.
Major General Idris also suggested that both agencies should do joint research to find out how terrorist groups are getting their money and stop it completely.
In his reply, EFCC boss Ola Olukoyede thanked the Army officers for the visit and said it is very important for security agencies to work together.
“The fight against terrorism is not for one agency alone. We must collaborate to strengthen our synergy,” he said
