
As part of trade facilitation and measure to avoid delays leading to congestion at the ports, the Tin Can Island Port and Ports Terminal Multiservices Commands of Nigeria Customs Service have directed officers to work on Saturdays.
The Controllers of the commands have also urged licensed customs agents with pending jobs to come as they would be promptly attended to by customs officers on Saturday.
The delay in transactions which were partly caused by recent amendment in usage of code 846 in processing imported vehicles with non standard Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) and network glitch on the B’Odogwu platform is being resolved
Trouble started recently when the NCS detected that some port users were suspected to be abusing the code 846 to clear vehicles with standard VIN thereby resulting in revenue loss.
The weekend operation,our reporter learnt is part of a recent intervention by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for importers and their agents to clear their consignments quickly and avoid payment of huge sums in demurrage
