High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, a prominent Niger Delta leader and ex-militant commander, has called for calm and reconciliation among the Ijaw Nation amid escalating political tensions between former Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking during his 54th birthday celebration in Oporoza Town, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Tompolo appealed to the Ijaw people not to allow Wike’s recent statements to stir division.
“For the sake of peace, I am pleading with the entire Ijaw Nation — do not be angry. Let us rise above provocation and embrace dialogue,” he said.
Assuring his people that there will be a solution to the present political tension in the State, Tompolo said, “Ijaw played a key role in Wike’s political journey. Even today, Governor Fubara, our own son, will retain his position as Governor of Rivers State.”
Tompolo acknowledged that while Wike was influential in Fubara’s emergence, the deepening rift must be resolved. He offered to personally mediate between both leaders to restore their father-and-son bond, stressing that dialogue, not division, must shape the future of Rivers State and the Ijaw Nation.
“Wike is a friend to me. It is time for reconciliation, I will intervene where necessary to ensure peace prevails,” he added.
