Supplementary Poll: IGP Orders Restriction of Movement, Reaffirms Ban on VIP Aides, Others

Aheadof the supplementary election on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba has ordered the restriction of all forms of vehicular movements on roads, waterways and other means of transportation from 12am to 5pm in the 24 affected states.

In a Statement signed by the Force Public Relations officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, IGP Baba noted that essential services such as INEC officials, electoral observers, accredited media and observers, emergency ambulances, firefighters, amongst other were excepted.

He reiterated the ban on security aides and escorts to VIPs and politicians in all polling units, and the prohibition of state and private owned security outfits; quasi-security units from participating in election security management.

The affected states includes Adamawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Imo, Kano, Kogi, Oyo, Rivers, Taraba, Jigawa, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kaduna, Niger, Ogun, Yobe, Katsina, and Enugu States.

The Inspector General of Police assured all citizens of adequate security during and after the election and urged them to exercise their franchise in a lawful and orderly manner.
