From Court to Court, Detention after detention, Mr. Martins Ugwu, alias George Davison, Abdul Razaq Sheidu , a notorious serial blackmailer and owner of a dubious outfit known as Save the Soul Transparency and Eagle Eyes International Foundation has been sentenced to four years and two months in prison by Justice Idris Abubakar Kutigi at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi, Abuja, On Tuesday November 26, 2024.
Martins Ugwu Okperwho has several fake names he uses to cover his dubious activities and prevent the public from positively identifying him was eventually sentenced on Tuesday 26 November 2024.
Ugwu used forged certificate to gain employment in 2006 At the Federal Ministry of Health and worked as a medical doctor for 10 years, earning ₦17.2 million in salaries and allowances, which the court has ordered him to return to the Federal Government after serving his jail sentence.
Martins Ugwu is notorious for blackmailing highly placed persons such as CEOs of Government Agencies for pecuniary interest. While pleading for leniency, Ugwu told the judge that he has several cases in other courts in Nigeria which he wants to attend personally and preferred to be jailed at Abuja.
Our reporter gathered that the Jabi Court 10 was packed full with persons who have suffered blackmail and extortion from Ugwu and members and Trustees of his dubious foundation Save the Soul Transparency and Eagle Eyes International Foundation who came to witness his sentencing.
Sources in Abuja hinted that Ugwu has contacts in governs agencies who aid him in traumatizing his victims for pecuniary interest, supporting his criminal activities, which is why he is bold and uncaring in attacking his victims and petitioning CEOs to anti-graft agencies. Traumatizing and causing top executives deep emotional imbalance.
It could be recalled that Martins Ugwu has an NGO known as Save the Soul which he uses to extort and blackmail innocent citizens. Some members of the Board of Trustee of his NGO which include a lawyer who is currently on trial at the a court at the FCT.
Ugwu is also said to be facing charges of blackmail and defamation before a high court in Akure, which is why he is being detained at the correctional center in Ondo state even as has several cases to face. He was brought to Abujafor sentencing from Ondo and will betaken back to prison at Ondo to serve his time.
Before his sentencing, Ugwu told the court that he is a father of three children and a first-time offender which cause laughter in court, he said there is a plot to keep him away from attending other cases before other courts in which he is an accused person, urging the court to tamper justice with mercy.
The prosecution lawyer however told the court that cases before various court against Ugwu showed that he is a perpetual, serial crook with penchant for duplicity as an offender.
Dramatically, his lawyer vanished from court prior to his sentencing thinking his absence could stall the case but this did not deter the Presiding Judge form passing sentence who stated that the Supreme judgement on such antics is very clear.
Justice Kutigi cautioned that Ugwu’s conviction should serve as a deterrent to others who might consider engaging in such fraudulent practices. He frowned at how a secondary school drop like Ugwu could steal a Doctors certificate, forge NYSC papers and secure work as a medical doctor in Nigeria.
