Police Arrest Four Suspected Cultists in Edo

The Edo State Police in collaboration with a vigilante group have arrested four suspects over alleged cultism, abduction, public breach of peace, and unlawful possession of arms in Benin City.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the arrest to our correspondent in a telephone chat on Tuesday.

He gave the names of the suspects as Agbohense Junior aged 15, Egbeyor Daniel 17, Friday Osazuwa 20, and James Endurance 19.

According to the police image maker, the divisional police officer in charge of Esigie division received intelligence report on June 4, that hoodlums suspected to be cultists were shooting sporadically at Agbonwonmba street, Muritala Muhammed Way and abducted one Glory Aneite, aged 18.


“The police in collaboration with the vigilante group, have rescued the victim unhurt and arrested four suspects while others escaped. One locally made cut-to-size pistol, one expanded cartridge were recovered from them”, he said.

Nwabuzor added that the suspects would be charged to court after thorough investigations, while efforts are being made by the operatives to arrest the other suspects at large.
