Amidst the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across the nation resulting in long queues, petrol is available in Badagry environ between N940 to N970 per litre in filling stations.
According to findings by JournalNG, there are no queues except in filling stations of Independent Oil Marketers like NNPC and Mobil.They sell at N620 and N650 respectively while the black markerters sell between N1,100 and N1,200.
Further findings revealed that there is slight increase in transportation fare it the area.
Earlier, Vice President (Downstream) of NNPCL, Dapo Segun apologized to Nigerians for the fuel scarcity.He attributed the problem to rains, lightning and thunderstorms.
He added that the recent rains have made Estravos channel difficult to navigate due to situation which has significantly hindered their ability to transport petroleum products l, especially PMS across the country.
He further explained that lightning and thunderstorms culminated in suspension fuel discharges and the situation is worsened by the poor state of roads in the country.
Transporters in Badagry admitted that it is not difficult for them to purchase fuel and there are no queues but the price surge is affecting their businesses.
One Ibrahim Adeniyi, a motorist said ” Fuel is available in Badagry but expensive.They sell to us for N940, N950 and N970.Passengers are complaining bitterly because we have increased the fare price too”
Chinedu Charles lamented that despite the fuel price increase, the measurement from the fuel pump is not always accurate.
“The measurements from the fuel pump is no longer accurate which makes us spend more for lower quantities.Getting it in Badagry is easy but the price is high”
Another motorist who doesn’t want his name in print said” Things are getting out of hand.How can ordinary PMS be as expensive as this? It is almost N1,000 and even more in some other places.Businesses are getting more affected.We are just working very hard and making little gains.I hope the government does something about this situation before it becomes worse”
