Suspected Lakurawa bandits launched a deadly attack on a construction site in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Saturday afternoon, killing four people, including a staff member of Airtel Nigeria who was installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The Kebbi State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
Following the attack, Commissioner of Police Bello Mohammed Sani and Kebbi State Comptroller of Immigration, Muhammad Bashir Lawali, visited the scene and oversaw the evacuation of the victims’ bodies to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
In response, the Commissioner reviewed the area’s security strategy and deployed additional tactical teams to counter the bandits’ activities. He also met with key stakeholders, urging them to provide timely and critical information to aid security operations.
The attack underscores the persistent threat posed by bandits in parts of Kebbi State, even as authorities intensify efforts to secure the region.
