The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, received a warm welcome from officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on his return to the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, June 29, 2026, following his successful outing at the 147th and 148th World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council Sessions in Brussels.
Adeniyi’s return comes after his tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council was officially renewed for another year in recognition of his outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing global customs administration.
The management team of the NCS also congratulated the CGC on the recent six-month extension of his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and presented him with a commemorative souvenir in appreciation of his exemplary leadership and transformative contributions to the Service.
Speaking during the reception, Adeniyi expressed gratitude to the management team for their unwavering support, describing the gesture as a testament to the unity and shared vision within the Nigeria Customs Service.
“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” the CGC said.
He noted that the renewed confidence reposed in him by members of the WCO Council reflects the collective efforts and professionalism of officers and men of the Service.
The extension of Adeniyi’s international mandate, alongside the recent renewal of his appointment as Comptroller-General of Customs, further underscores the confidence in his leadership and is expected to strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service’s ongoing reforms, deepen international partnerships, and enhance trade facilitation initiatives.
