Area Controller, Tin Can Island Command, Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Dera Nnadi has charged the newly promoted officers at the command to use their new office for efficient service delivery instead of arrogating power or authority to themselves.
He gave the charge while decorating 110 officers promoted recently by management of the service at the command on Tuesday in Lagos.
Nnadi also called on the officers to help use their new ranks to help the command to survive in its quest to meet its revenue target for the year 2024 which according to him, would be made known in few fays time.
“This year is going to be labelled the year of stakeholders and it is going to be hanged in the shoulders of the newly promoted officers
“Put in your thinking caps and come up with new ideas.
Among those decorated are nine Deputy Comptrollers who were promoted to the rank of Comptrollers, sixteen Assistant Comptrollers promoted to Deputy Comptrollers and twenty one Chief Superintendent of Customs promoted to Assistant Comptrollers.
Speaking further, Comptroller Nnadi lauded the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi for the promotion of sixty seven Comptrollers at once saying it is unprecedented.
He stated that the CG was magnanimous enough to grant the promotion of officers who have been on the waiting list for sometimes.
The Customs Chief advised those not yet promoted to work harder for their own promotion, urging the officers to prioritize working relationship with stakeholders.
According to him, the command personnel will work with the port users towards achieving revenue target and trade facilitation.
His words, “Over 67 Customs Area Controllers were promoted, that is unprecedented.
“It is important that the management decided to compensate them this time around.
“You are not only lucky, you are privileged, having been found academically competent.
“Those not promoted should work hard. Your rank confers service in you and not power. Whichever office that is going to be assigned to you should be seen as service and not as power.
“Our stakeholders deserve to be respected you must optimize service delivery.
“Use your new rank to help the command to survive in the revenue target to be assigned to the command.
“The only obligation is to mentor you and what you owe me back is service delivery.
Also speaking, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) chieftain, Ojo Peter Akintoye, in his goodwill message expressed happiness that Tincan command recorded the highest number of promoted officers.
He however admonished the officers to use their offices to create friendship for future sake.
“I am delighted that the command has the highest number of promoted officers
“I congratulate the officers and advise that you create avenue that will enable you to see tomorrow from today so that after all things, we will be able to merry together again.
“May the Lord see you to the end.”
Comptroller Seriki advised the promoted officers not to see themselves as superior to the officers that were not promoted.
He added.that the reward for promotion is more work saying they should justify the confidence reposed in them by the Service and Nigeria at large.
“Find yourselves lucky yo be promoted because those of your colleagues that were not promoted are not dullards
“To whom much is given, much is expected, have it at the back of your mind and should not fail to justify the confidence reposed in you by NCS and Nigeria as a whole.
“Do not join others to cut corners and do not bring Nigeria down.”
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Okadigbo expressed delight over the promotion exercise even as he lauded the management of the Service
He assured the Area Comptroller that the promoted officers would put in their best for the goof of Customs.
His words, “We will like to express our gratitude and we will put in our best.”
