A middle-aged man, popularly known as Ogheneovo has reportedly committed suicide at his residence located along Gesimisi Street, Okumagba Layout in Warri, Delta State, after his wife left him.
The deceased was said to have drank an insecticide.
An eyewitness, Ekete Okon alleged that the late Ogheneovo’s wife left him in January as a result of domestic violence caused by his constant intake of alcohol, which made him always drunk.
She further disclosed that the wife, who could no longer condone the abuse, ran away with her three younger children and left the oldest behind.
A friend to the deceased son added that the late Ogheneovo made a distress call to his son, telling him to call back but, the son who was busy with customers at his shop, returned the call much later.
According to the source, the son ran home when his father was not picking his calls, only to discover his lifeless body on the bed with the insecticide by his side.
It was also gathered that the deceased had attempted to take his life in the past by hanging, but was caught in the act by a neighbour.
Although no suicide note was found, eyewitnesses said that his action might not be unconnected to his wife and children who left him.
When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe disclosed that the incident had not been reported as at the time of filing this report.
