
The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated N28,503,393,802.75 revenue between March and May 2026, representing an 8 per cent increase compared to the N26,233,796,496.57 collected during the corresponding period in 2025.

Aside from its revenue achievements, the Command recorded several anti-smuggling successes through intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with other security agencies.The Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizure is N3,221,843,672.00.

Acting Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, disclosed this during a press briefing held on 18th June, 2026, noting that the revenue performance reflected the commitment of the Command to blocking leakages, enhancing compliance and improving revenue collection.

He revealed that three suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure of pump-action rifles and are currently under investigation.

He attributed the achievement to the dedication and professionalism of officers and men of the Command, as well as the cooperation of compliant stakeholders and members of the trading community.

Among the items intercepted were 1,537 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 102 bales and 13 sacks of used clothing, 56 sacks of used shoes, 1,105 pieces of used tyres, 462 used compressors, 106 bags of sugar, 48 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 60 packs of foreign macaroni and 505 bottles of foreign vegetable oil.

The Command also seized 1,769 wraps of cannabis sativa, 2,158 sachets of Tramadol 250mg, four pieces of Analgin Injection, four pieces of Hiegra 300mg, four pieces of Hiegra 200mg and four pieces of Mygra 200mg.

Other seizures included three pump-action rifles, 3,437 packs of Tramadol 250mg, 604 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) equivalent to 15,100 litres, 142 cartons of pharmaceuticals, two sachets of Ice, five wraps of Colorado, three wraps of Canadian Loud and 20 sachets of Rohypnol 1mg.

The Command further intercepted several vehicles comprising one Nissan Caravan, one Mitsubishi Outlander, one Equinox LT, one GMC vehicle, one Opel Astra, one Toyota Corolla, one Fiat Tipper Truck, one Blue Galaxy Ford and three Toyota Hiace buses.

He said the Command is working closely with the Customs Intelligence Unit, Customs Police Unit and the Legal Unit to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling of the firearms and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

The Acting Controller also disclosed the arrest of another suspect linked to alleged recruitment fraud and impersonation.

According to him, the suspect was apprehended through intelligence gathering and collaboration with the Amotekun Corps in Ibadan after allegedly defrauding members of the public by claiming to facilitate recruitment into the Nigeria Customs Service in exchange for money.

He reiterated that recruitment into the Customs Service is transparent, merit-based and conducted strictly through officially approved channels, warning members of the public to disregard individuals promising employment opportunities for financial gratification.
Adewole commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the management of the Service for their support and leadership, assuring that the Command would continue to combat smuggling, facilitate legitimate trade and contribute to national economic growth.
