Customs FOU Zone C Seizes Smuggled Vegetable Oil Worth N403.4m in Enugu, Anambra Operations  

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted and seized a large consignment of smuggled vegetable oil with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N403,491,000.00.

The seizure followed intelligence-driven operations carried out by officers of the unit in Enugu and Anambra states.

According to the Controller of the Unit, Comptroller Bishir Balogun who disclosed this in a press release, operatives of the Unit intercepted two trucks loaded with foreign vegetable oil along the 9th Mile area of Enugu at about 10 p.m. on May 9, while another consignment was intercepted along the Onitsha–Agbor Highway on June 7, 2026, following credible intelligence reports.

Items seized include 3,310 jerrycans of 25-litre “Super Delicious” vegetable oil, 10 jerrycans of 10-litre “Super Delicious” vegetable oil, 20 cartons of five-litre sunflower vegetable oil, and 20 cartons of three-litre sunflower vegetable oil.

Comptroller Bishir described the seizure as a major setback for smugglers involved in the illegal importation of vegetable oil, noting that such activities undermine local industries, discourage technology transfer, threaten jobs and reduce foreign exchange earnings.

He reiterated the Unit’s commitment to enforcing the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2022 and supporting the Federal Government’s fiscal and protective policies, including restrictions on the importation of foreign vegetable oil.

He also warned individuals and criminal networks involved in smuggling activities to desist, stressing that the agency would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to safeguard the nation’s economy, public health and security.

 

The seized products remain in Customs custody while investigations continue and necessary legal procedures are initiated.
