The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organised a leadership seminar for senior officers as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, teamwork and service delivery.
The seminar, held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Command’s Conference Hall, also featured the presentation of Certificates of Excellence to two officers for their outstanding performance and commitment to duty.
The initiative, according to the Command, is in line with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, FNIPR, PSC+, to develop a more efficient, motivated and service-oriented workforce.
Declaring the seminar open, the Acting Area Controller of PTML Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko, said effective leadership remained critical to the successful implementation of the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling.
Miko said the Command would continue to support initiatives designed to improve the welfare, health and productivity of officers, citing the recently introduced Work-Life Balance Initiative as part of measures aimed at creating a more productive workforce.
The seminar featured sessions on strategic leadership, effective communication, decision-making, conflict management and ethical conduct.
Miko delivered the first lecture, titled “Leadership and Followership: Building a Culture of Collaboration and Excellence,” where he stressed the importance of collaboration between leaders and their subordinates in achieving organisational objectives.
He charged participants to translate the knowledge acquired during the seminar into practical improvements in their respective areas of responsibility.
The Acting Area Controller also assured stakeholders and members of the trading community of the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and the promotion of ease of doing business.
Participants were drawn from the ranks of Chief Superintendent of Customs to Deputy Comptroller of Customs.
A major highlight of the event was the recognition of two officers for their diligence and outstanding service.
The award recipients were Assistant Comptroller J.O. Ezekuse, Officer-in-Charge of Mile 2 Gate, and Chief Superintendent of Customs C.A. Ibrahim, Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Unit.
Presenting the Certificates of Excellence, Miko said the recognition was part of the Command’s mechanism for identifying and rewarding officers who demonstrate diligence, selflessness, professionalism and efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
He urged other officers to emulate the award recipients and remain committed to giving their best in the service of the nation.
The seminar, according to the Command, underscored the importance of continuous leadership development in building a professional workforce capable of delivering on the mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service.
