The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international partnerships, trade facilitation, and border security through sustained engagement with the diplomatic community.
This commitment was highlighted on June 3, 2026, when the Service hosted a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception at its headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The event brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of missions, senior government officials, and top security chiefs in a strategic effort to enhance cooperation and foster stronger bilateral and multilateral relationships.
Speaking at the reception, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s international partners for their continued support in advancing diplomatic and trade relations.
“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” he said.
Adeniyi noted that the NCS has expanded its international engagement through structured collaboration with more than 20 customs administrations across the world.
According to him, these partnerships focus on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and operational cooperation aimed at improving trade facilitation and border management.
He stressed that stronger collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions, and security agencies is essential for achieving effective border security, boosting revenue generation, and enhancing Nigeria’s economic competitiveness in an increasingly interconnected global trading environment.
The Customs boss also underscored the importance of trust, dialogue, and shared responsibility in addressing emerging challenges in international trade, security, and compliance, noting that modern customs operations require close cooperation among global partners.
The reception, attended by the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Customs Management, and other senior officials, provided a platform for networking, exchange of ideas, and the exploration of new areas of collaboration.
Participants commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its efforts in strengthening institutional relationships and creating an enabling environment for international cooperation, with many describing the initiative as a valuable step toward enhancing Nigeria’s diplomatic and trade architecture.
