MOWCA Plans Maritime Expo to Expand Sea Time, Job Opportunities for Cadets

Dr Paul Adalikwu, Secretary General of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) has disclosed plans by the organisation to put together an expo in Lagos, Nigeria that would bring leading maritime countries to the region to expand sea time and job opportunities for cadets.

Speaking on the sidelines of a moderated interactive session at the ongoing inaugural visit of delegations from the Regional Maritime University, Accra and Academie Regionale Des Sciences et Techniques de la Mer, Vote D’Ivore, Adalikwu said MOWCA will invite maritime countries like Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia to share there expertise and open up opportunities for youths from the organisation’s member countries.

He added that the move would help trainees and fresh graduates across West and Central Africa to achieve sea time and job placement in the global maritime space.

Adalikwu recalled that MOWCA had earlier secured training scholarships valued at $1.3 million by the Indonesian government to support the maritime training of 96 beneficiaries, which turned out successful.

On research, the MOWCA SG said efforts are at an advanced stage to engage a network of funders such as the Lloyds Register Foundation to activate research grants for promotion of productive maritime scholarships leading to regional economic development.
