Ag. Controller Adamu Strengthens Border Oversight at Maigatari, Backs Trade, Security Drive

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed its commitment to enhanced border security and seamless trade facilitation following a strategic visit to the Maigatari border corridor in Jigawa State.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) UU Adamu, undertook a familiarisation tour of the Maigatari border area on 13 February 2026 as part of efforts to reinforce operational oversight, deepen inter-agency collaboration and strengthen stakeholder engagement across the Command’s jurisdiction.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, on 16 February 2026.

 

During the visit, DC Adamu was received by officers at the border station alongside representatives of sister security and regulatory agencies, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, the Chairman of Maigatari Local Government Area, and community leaders. The engagement provided a platform to consolidate institutional cooperation and foster stronger ties with the host community in support of legitimate cross-border trade.

Addressing stakeholders, Adamu commended the community and partner agencies for their sustained support, stressing that effective border governance depends on synergy, intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement. He described Maigatari as a strategic trade gateway and assured stakeholders of the Command’s resolve to facilitate lawful commerce while safeguarding national security.

As part of the assessment tour, Adamu inspected operational activities at the border station and visited the control centre of the Nigeria Immigration Service, where cross-border movements are monitored in real time to strengthen border management processes.

The Controller also toured the Maigatari Free Trade Zone, engaging with its management team on strategies to enhance functionality through improved ICT deployment. He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment, under the leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs , Bashir Adewale Adeniyi to support initiatives that boost trade efficiency and investment inflows.

 

In his remarks, the Chairman of Maigatari Local Government Area, Hon. Usman Na’Allah, welcomed the Controller and pledged the continued cooperation of the local government and residents in advancing secure and orderly border operations.

The Jigawa State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Aminu Babura, reiterated the state government’s determination to revitalise the Free Trade Zone, while the Managing Director, Abdulaziz Hadejia, disclosed that additional infrastructure projects are underway to attract increased investment and commercial activity.
