
Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, the Customs Area Controller of Kano/Jigawa Command has been honoured with the Controller of the Year Award by the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Announcing Dr. Dalhatu as the recipient of the award, Adeniyi listed the numerous interceptions of unlawful currency at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport and several other feats as reasons for the honour on the recipient
The Comptroller General described Abubakar as outstanding in the running of the affairs of his area which accounts for a sizable number of commercial activities in the northern part of the country, specifically covering Kano and Jigawa States.
Adeniyi who presented the award to Abubakar at the weekend, as part of activities marking the 2025 Comptroller General of Customs Conference, specifically mentioned that on March 13, 2025, the Kano/Jigawa Command seized $1,154,900 USD,135,900 SAR (Saudi Riyals) concealed in palm date fruit packs (dabino) by inbound passenger Hauwa Ibrahim Abdullahi from Saudi Arabia on Saudia Airlines.
The CGC also mentioned that on April 27, 2025, Abubakar’s command also intercepted $86,500 USD, 305,150 SAR,200 EUR
hidden in bedspreads and date packs in an unaccompanied bag.

On July 7, 2025, the Kano/Jigawa Command also seized $420,900 USD, £5,825 GBP 3,946,500 OF (West African CFA Francs) and 224,000 XAF (Central African CFA Francs)

These monies were brought in in violation of extant laws which stipulate that such funds be declared to the designated authorities.
JournalNG reports that Comptroller Abubakar sets the pace for his subordinates in strategic stakeholders engagement leading to trade facilitation and improved productivity for excise operation while ensuring maximum collection of revenue for the government.
He has also deepen user awareness and adaptability for the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) also known as B’Odogwu and the Authorised Economic Operator(AEO) scheme which begins in January 2026.
