Kano/Jigawa Customs Returns Seized Food to Owners As Comptroller Chana Urges Sales in Local Markets


Following President Bola Tinubu’s directives that food items seized from persons who attempted taking them out of the country be returned to their original owners, the Kano/Jigawa Command of Nigeria Customs Service has complied.

Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, Customs Area Controller of the command who carried out the directive handed down by the Comptroller General of Customs,Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, also advised the traders to sell the food items at local markets within the country.

The Area Controller also urged the beneficiaries of the president’s magnanimity to put the national interest forward in all they do while reminding them of the extant provision of the law which provides that grains and their derivatives fall under export prohibition.

The CAC added that the command will deploy intelligence and other mechanism to monitor the sale of the food items locally to prevent them from being smuggled out of Nigeria .
