The Customs Area Controller in charge of Seme Area Command, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila, has commenced his tenure with a series of strategic familiarisation visits to sister security agencies along the Lagos-Benin corridor, aimed at strengthening collaboration and reinforcing border security operations.
Speaking during a visit to the 243 Recce Battalion, Ibereko, on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, the Customs Area Controller noted that the initiative is designed to foster cooperation and enhance synergy in the discharge of statutory responsibilities.
“Seme border is known to be a critical gateway for trade between Nigeria and other neighboring countries. If you look at the volume of trade taking part here, movement of people and cross-border activities, one can easily say Seme is a sensitive and critical strategic corridor and that is why we need continuous collaboration, intelligence sharing and mutual support”, he said.
He emphasised that sustained synergy among sister agencies would not only strengthen border security but also contribute to economic stability and improve the well-being of border communities. The CAC further appealed for continued support, noting that the achievements of his predecessors were largely driven by strong inter-agency cooperation.
In his response, the Commanding Officer of the 243 Recce Battalion, Lt. Colonel Ambrose Ikoro, commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its pivotal role in safeguarding the nation’s borders and facilitating legitimate trade.
“I have knowledge of the synergy and cooperation that exist between our service and Customs. We have also pledged to maintain and improve upon what we have built. Supporting the Customs is necessary and our Chief of Army Staff has said we as a unit operating in border area is to support every relevant security agencies which of course Customs falls among them”, he said.
As part of the ongoing engagement, Comptroller Kaila also visited the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, the 15 Field Engineer Regiment of the Nigerian Army Engineers, and the NAFDAC office at Seme, reaffirming his commitment to building a robust inter-agency network focused on enhancing border security and ensuring seamless trade facilitation.
