The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced that its second-quarter conference will hold on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.
The event, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., will focus on the theme: Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology. It is expected to attract key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors for robust discussions on improving port operations and unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential.
According to the organisers, the conference will provide a strategic platform to evaluate the impact of emerging technologies on seaport efficiency, foster knowledge exchange, and strengthen collaboration across the maritime industry.
Deliberations will also address longstanding operational challenges affecting major ports, including Warri, Calabar, and Port Harcourt.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Raymond Tedunjaiye, AMJON was described as a leading body of maritime journalists drawn from print, electronic, and online media.
He noted that the association’s conferences have consistently served as credible forums for industry stakeholders to engage on critical national issues, particularly those relating to maritime development and economic growth.
He added that recommendations from the conference would be documented and presented to relevant government authorities for possible implementation.
Key agencies expected at the event include the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Nigeria Police Force, as well as maritime labour unions and terminal operators.
Dignitaries anticipated at the conference include the Comptroller-General of Customs, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Director-General of NIMASA, senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and other industry leaders.
A major highlight of the event will be an awards segment recognising individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Speaking on the significance of the conference, AMJON President, Vera Osokpo, said the event was designed to address pressing issues within the industry. She emphasised the increasing role of technology in port operations, even as infrastructural deficits—such as poor road networks, limited rail connectivity, and unreliable power supply continue to hinder optimal performance.
Osokpo added that discussions will explore trade facilitation strategies that enhance efficiency without compromising security, alongside the adoption of automation, smart port systems, and the digital transformation of port processes.
Reaffirming its role as a critical voice in Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy space, AMJON assured participants of insightful presentations, expert-led sessions, and valuable networking opportunities aimed at fostering partnerships and driving sustainable industry growth.
