NIMASA Partners AMJON 2026 Maritime Training Summit, Backs Blue Economy Development
Lagos is set to host key stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime industry as industry leaders, regulators, policymakers and experts converge for the 2026 Maritime Training Summit and Awards of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON).
The event, organised under the theme, “The Power of Innovation in a Future-Ready Maritime Training Agenda,” is scheduled to take place at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) partnering AMJON to advance discussions on human capital development and the growth of Nigeria’s Blue Economy.
The summit will provide a platform for stakeholders to examine the role of innovation, technology and professional training in strengthening the maritime sector and preparing Nigeria’s workforce to take advantage of emerging opportunities across the marine and maritime economy.
According to AMJON, NIMASA’s partnership underscores the Agency’s continued commitment to the development of Nigeria’s maritime industry, particularly in the areas of indigenous participation, maritime safety and security, capacity development and the sustainable utilisation of the country’s vast marine resources.
The Association noted that as Nigeria intensifies efforts to harness the potential of its Blue Economy, developing a highly skilled and globally competitive maritime workforce has become increasingly important.
AMJON President, Vera Osokpo, said NIMASA’s support for the summit demonstrates the Agency’s recognition of the critical role of knowledge, innovation and capacity development in unlocking the enormous potential of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
Osokpo said the partnership would enrich discussions at the summit while providing industry stakeholders with an opportunity to explore practical strategies for equipping maritime professionals with the skills and expertise required to respond to the changing demands of the sector.
She noted that NIMASA has continued to play a strategic role in Nigeria’s maritime development through its regulatory mandate and various interventions designed to promote safety, security, shipping development, indigenous capacity and sustainable growth.
The AMJON president said the summit would therefore serve as an important platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, identify gaps in maritime training and develop innovative approaches capable of producing a future-ready workforce.
She added that effective investment in human capital remained essential to Nigeria’s ambition of transforming its maritime resources into sustainable economic opportunities and strengthening the country’s position within the global maritime community.
