The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the seizure of smuggled and prohibited goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦2.53 billion, alongside the generation of ₦14.7 billion in revenue within the period under review.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller WM Adewole, said the seizures were made through intensified surveillance, credible intelligence, and coordinated patrol operations across Oyo and Osun states.
He noted that the enforcement actions were carried out in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, particularly Section 245, which empowers the Service to intercept and confiscate prohibited items.
According to him, the total DPV of the seized items stands at ₦2,531,091,846.00, reflecting the Command’s sustained crackdown on smuggling and other illegal cross-border activities.
On revenue performance, Adewole disclosed that the Command generated ₦14,745,741,806.05 during the period, demonstrating its commitment to blocking revenue leakages, ensuring compliance with existing regulations, and facilitating legitimate trade.
He added that the figure represents a 46.22 per cent increase compared to the ₦10.1 billion generated within the same period in 2025.
The Controller issued a stern warning to smugglers and economic saboteurs, stating that the Command would not relent in enforcing government fiscal policies and safeguarding the nation’s economy.
He also called on members of the public to support the Service with timely and credible information, stressing that compliance with import and export regulations remains the most effective way to avoid sanctions.
Adewole expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the management team for their continued support and strategic direction.
He further acknowledged the role of traditional rulers and stakeholders in promoting lawful trade and discouraging smuggling activities within their communities.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and integrity in the discharge of its duties, while also commending the media for enhancing public awareness through accurate and timely reporting.
