The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port Command has announced plans to transition to paperless operations in the second quarter of 2026, as part of efforts to make the command a one-stop shop for seamless cargo clearance.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tincan Island Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, disclosed this during a media engagement in Lagos, where he unveiled the command’s strategic plans for the year.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at supporting the Federal Government’s National Single Window (NSW) policy, in which the command is expected to play a critical role.
Onyeka noted that stakeholder engagement and sensitisation of the trading public would precede the rollout of the paperless system to ensure smooth implementation.
Highlighting the command’s performance, he revealed that the Tincan Island Command generated over ₦145.9 billion in revenue in January 2026, representing an increase of about ₦29.5 billion compared to the ₦116.4 billion recorded in January 2025.
Describing the command as a trade enabler, Onyeka said the goal is to make clearance processes practicable and achievable for all stakeholders across the value chain. He assured that the paperless platform would be robust and not hampered by network disruptions.
The CAC urged importers to ensure accurate declarations, stressing that proper documentation would guarantee seamless clearance, while consignments that are unclear during scanning would be subjected to physical examination for security reasons.
He also emphasised the need for importers to palletise their goods to facilitate faster clearance.
“We are not going to compromise on national security. Importers must palletise their goods for easy clearance,” Onyeka stated.
