Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Customs Generates ₦147.2b in 2025, Hands Over Expired Imports to NAFDAC

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a strong revenue performance in 2025, generating a total of ₦147,216,149,033.81 billion, surpassing its annual revenue target by 35 percent while it handed over a 20-foot container, GESU3900612, containing 440 bags of 25kg expired raw material known as Triple Pressed Stearic Acid, imported from Indonesia, to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
According to the Acting Customs Area Controller of the command, Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Adigun who disclosed this during a media briefing held on Friday, January 23, 2026, in Lagos, the revenue generated in 2025 exceeds the target of ₦109,442,892,989.86 and represents a ₦40.03 billion increase, translating to a 35 per cent growth over the target.
The figure also marks a significant improvement compared to the same period in 2024, when the Command recorded ₦107,182,674,904 in revenue.

DC Adigun attributed the improved performance to enhanced enforcement strategies, strengthened compliance by stakeholders and deliberate efforts to block revenue leakages while facilitating legitimate trade.
He revealed that the seized consignment, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦36,556,539, was intercepted during routine cargo examination at the terminal. The Command discovered that the imported raw material had expired, thereby violating Nigeria’s import regulations and posing potential risks to public health.
According to him, the handover underscores the Command’s commitment to preventing the entry of expired and substandard products into the country, while reinforcing inter-agency cooperation in regulatory enforcement.

In a related development, the Command also intercepted a 40-foot container, MSKU 4798018, at the Joliz Terminal. The container, which was falsely declared as containing zipped luggage, was found to hold empty suitcases. The seized items have a Duty Paid Value of ₦5,010,000.
Adigun said the seizure reflects its zero-tolerance stance on false declaration, smuggling, and other trade-related infractions, as officers continue to intensify surveillance and examination procedures at the port.
The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command reiterated its resolve to facilitate legitimate trade, enforce customs laws, and safeguard public health while ensuring strict compliance with import regulations.
He credited the leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service, under the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for providing the enabling environment that supported the Command’s achievements.

Officers and men of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command were commended for their professionalism and dedication in tackling smuggling and other unlawful trade activities, while compliant stakeholders and partner agencies were acknowledged for their cooperation.
