Excellence in public service goes beyond protecting an institution’s image; it demands consistency, integrity, loyalty, and an unwavering sense of duty.
These qualities have continued to define the professional journey of Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, PhD, the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Since assuming office as the substantive Customs Public Relations Officer in April 2023, Maiwada has played a critical role in strengthening public confidence in the Service.
Through strategic communication, effective stakeholder engagement, and a proactive approach to narrative management, he has contributed significantly to projecting the reforms and achievements of the NCS amid operational and public scrutiny.
Operating under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, Maiwada has continued to demonstrate professionalism and adaptability in a demanding role that requires precision, discretion, and balance.
Since his decoration with the new rank, he has remained focused on duty, guided by his leadership philosophy anchored on the CHAIR values—Courage, Humility, Adaptability, Integrity, and Resilience.
He has also emphasised that the elevation comes with increased responsibility to serve the institution with greater commitment.
In his remarks during the decoration ceremony, Maiwada dedicated the promotion to officers and men of the NCS Public Relations Unit, describing their support as a major source of motivation.
“This promotion further strengthens my resolve to serve the Service with even greater dedication.
I dedicate this rank to the hardworking officers and men of the Public Relations Unit whose support continues to inspire me. We will not relent in projecting the Service’s reforms and achievements with clarity and integrity,” he said.
The promotion stands as a reflection of Maiwada’s dedication, leadership capacity, and contributions to institutional image-building within the Nigeria Customs Service. His steady rise continues to inspire colleagues and junior officers across the Service.
With his elevation to Deputy Comptroller, Maiwada is expected to introduce more innovative communication strategies that will further enhance the reputation of the Nigeria Customs Service, positioning the institution for greater effectiveness and public trust.
