Tin Can Customs Command Emerges Number One in CSR at CGC Awards

The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has announced Tin Can Island Port Command of the service as the best in corporate social responsibility (CSR) in 2025.

As part of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives under the “Customs Cares” program, the command’s intervention has been visibly appreciated through Educational support and School Renovation Projects at the Christ Assembly Nursery and Primary School in Araromi, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Governement Area of Lagos

Comptroller Onyeka led the command to provide modern learning facilities with the distribution of educational materials to over 2,000 pupils, and equipping the school which was stablished in 1960,with state-of-the-art infrastructure for a conducive learning environment.

This intervention included providing educational materials and establishing an ICT room and playground, which reportedly increased students enrollment in the school located in a suburban area of Lagos.

Aimed at improving access to quality education and supporting teachers in the community, the command under Onyeka has revolutionized the ambience and structure of the school with provision of modern learning aids

Comptroller Onyeka stressed the importance of engaging with stakeholders and host communities, viewing their support as crucial for the service’s operations. The CSR projects, according to him,are seen as a way to reciprocate the community support and build trust.

He added that it Aligns with CGC’s Vision while lauding the Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the enhanced focus on CSR as part of a modern customs administration, which includes trade facilitation and intelligence-driven operations.

Comptroller Onyeka views CSR not merely as an obligation but as an integral part of the Nigeria Customs Service’s modern operational strategy, aiming to foster goodwill and sustainable development in the communities where they operate.
