
The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has paid a courtesy visit to the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) to congratulate Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, the newly elected President-General of the Union alongside his hardworking executives.
According to the MWUN Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, who made this known in a press release, the executives of AMJON were at the Secretariat at Osho Drive, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos on 20th August, 2025 to felicitate with the new PG over his landslide victory during the polls and to show solidarity towards his dynamic leadership since he assumed office.
The leadership of AMJON also strongly pledged to work with the pragmatic labour leader of the Union, saying that it would give the PG all supports in the Maritime sector.
The Association described him as one labour leader who does not speak with both sides of his mouth, stressing that Comrade Bunu is a Press friendly labour leader and would always accord him that significant gesture at all times in the industry.
AMJON wished him well in his journey towards piloting the affairs of such a big Union which immense contributions toward the growth of Nigeria’s economy cannot be overemphasized.
Vera Osokpor, Vice President; Segun Oladipupo, Secretary; Ugochukwu Ezurike, Asst. Secretary; Barnabas Esiet, Treasurer , Tedunjaye Raymond, Financial Secretary; Uzor Odigbo, PRO; and Rhoda Ogunseye, Welfare Officer, were members of the Association who visited the Union.
In response, Maritime Expert and Veteran Sailor, Comrade Bunu, thanked the Journalists for their August visit to the Union. He promised his continued support for AMJON, saying that the Union cannot operate in isolation within the sector without the reportage of Journalists, who are the “watch dog” of the industry.
He pledged that the Union will work in synergy with the Press always. The Delta State born labour leader said that journalism should be practiced with fairness and justice in any given society, as the society looks up to them as true custodians of the truth .
In view of this, Comrade Bunu urged the Journalists to always balance their reportage and not give in to unnecessary sensationalism.
He thanked AMJON warmly for the visit and promised them that the Union’s door is always open at any time towards making sure that this synergy will continue to wax stronger.
