Human Rights Activist, Says State, Federal Gov’t Responsible for Ndokwa 16 Years Blackout

Evans Ufeli, a Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist has blamed the Delta State government and Federal Government for lack of electricity in Utagba-Ogbe, Ndokwa West LGA, Delta State.

He disclosed that for over sixteen years, the area has has been in darkness. According to him, the power source is straight from Delta State to Abuja, yet, there’s no power supply.

Ufeli stated that the state government is not making attempts to get Ndokwa connected, while the federal government is refusing to act according to law.

He said the people of Ndokwa decided to hold a protest which was was peaceful but the police introduced violence into it. They burnt people’s motorcycles and climbed on people.

“The power source is straight from Delta State to Abuja. And then you don’t have power supply, so it’s an irony. So where’s the misunderstanding? Who is supposed to be held responsible here? Both the state and the federal government. The state government for not making attempts to get us connected and the federal government for refusing to act according to law.

“We are supposed to have power supply. If there is no power supply anywhere in the country, no one need to have power supply because that is where power is generated from. Both talk about oil production, talk about gas deposits.

“We have the largest gas deposit in the whole of Africa. So you cannot be talking about darkness in that kind of condition. So the people held the protest and it was peaceful.

“It was the police that came and introduced violence into it. They started burning people’s motorcycles, started climbing on people. Most of those motorcycles, those persons who were riding those motorcycles
