The Lilypond Export Command of Nigeria Customs Service has announced a total non oil export of $2,141,546,149 United States dollars for 2024 with agricultural produce topping the chart.
This was disclosed by Comptroller Ajibola Odusanya at a press briefing in Lagos on the command’s activities.
While giving a breakdown of the activities,Comptroller Odusanya said agricultural produce topped the list of exported items with $1,134,337,499.
Other items on the export breakdown listed by Odusanya are manufactured goods, solid minerals and others with $340, 996,434 ; $335,687,305 and $330,524,912.
Odusanya said the agricultural sector has emerged as a dominant force within the non oil export landscape, accounting for over 53 percent of the total export value.
He added that the success is a testament to the commitment of stakeholders in enhancing the quality and marketability of Nigerian agricultural products.
According to the Controller, the command processed a total of 30,979 containers in 2024 facilitating smooth logistics and ensuring timely deliveries of Nigerian export to the international market.
He disclosed that there was a comparative decline in export in the fourth quarter of last year compared with previous quarters. Ajibola attributed this to the unavailability of empty containers to support export.
On the Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme, Ajibola said the command achieved a growth of 32.51 percent moving up from ₦5,333, 343,692.86k to ₦7, 067,351,977.16k
The Area Controller commended the collaboration with other government agencies like Nigerian Ports Authority and reassured of the command’s drive to uphold compliance and reiterated customs resolve to prevent smuggling in the guise of export.
Ajibola recalled that his commands figures are not the total for the whole of South West as other customs commands were still doing exports up to the second quarter of 2024.
