The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to aviation unions to suspend their ongoing industrial action and exercise restraint pending the return of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

The appeal was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, amid concerns over the impact of the industrial action on passengers and other stakeholders in the aviation sector.

According to  Najomo, Keyamo has been actively working towards resolving the issues that triggered the industrial action and is expected to engage the concerned parties upon his return.

Captain Najomo disclosed that a meeting convened by the minister last week to address the matter could not hold because airline operators failed to honour the invitation.

He  therefore urged the unions and other stakeholders to embrace dialogue and cooperation, expressing confidence that the dispute would be resolved shortly and normal flight operations restored as soon as practicable.

The DGCA  also sought to reassure the travelling public that the industrial action has not compromised aviation safety, stressing that it continues to exercise its statutory safety oversight responsibilities.

“Flight safety remains uncompromised,” he said, assuring passengers that its regulatory and safety oversight functions remain active.

He  however apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the ongoing disruption and appreciated their patience and understanding.
