The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the deployment of a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from its headquarters in Abuja to the United Kingdom to ease passport application and processing challenges faced by Nigerians in the diaspora.
The intervention was directed by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and is being coordinated by the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap.
According to an announcement issued by the NIS Headquarters, Abuja, the intervention team is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom on August 10, 2026, where it will work in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new and renewal passport applications.
The Service said the team would visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, allowing eligible applicants in different parts of the country to access the exercise.
The intervention is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, new applicants, as well as holders of passports with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to apply for renewal.
Applicants participating in the exercise are required to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.
However, the NIS advised applicants not to proceed to any location until the official schedule for the intervention, including designated cities, dates, venues and enrolment times, is announced.
It urged Nigerians in the UK to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for further details.
The Service also disclosed that all NIS digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would remain fully operational throughout the intervention exercise.
It added that the home delivery service would also remain available to applicants.
